Michael D. Valiga
October 17, 1923 ~ August 1, 2013
Michael D. Valiga, 89, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born October 17, 1923 in Youngstown, OH, he was the son of the late Michael and Bertha Valiga. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Kucera Valiga in 1983.
With over 30 years of service, Mr. Valiga retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a foreman in the Tin Mill.
He was a member of Cove Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and Deacon. Michael enjoyed golfing at Ponderosa Golf Course and fishing. During World War II, he served in the US Navy.
Michael is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ruth Ann Threnhauser Valiga of Weirton; a son, Gregory Valiga of Andover, OH a stepson, Joel S. Schreiner and his wife Terri of Weirton; a daughter Michelle D. Young and her husband David of Greenville, SC; a step daughter, Melissa J. Himes and her husband Brian of Poland, OH; grandchildren Danielle Blevins, Shannon (Scott) Patterson, Joel Schreiner, Marc Young and Jared Schreiner and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday 2-6 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be celebrated 11am Monday.
Interment will be in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH.
Ruth Ann would like to thank the staff of the Alzheimer's Unit for their outstanding and loving care given to Michael.

I want to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family during this time of sorrow. I will remember you all in my daily prayers. May he rest in peace. God be with you all.
Ruth Ann, My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. I didn’t know Mike very long, but he was such a kind and caring man. I saw in the solarium the day before he passed and he was having such a good time hitting the ball back to the Activity Director. He would look surprised if the balloon came down on his head and laugh out loud when he hit it.
I told him goodbye when I saw him in the lobby as I was leaving after lunch the day he passed. I got a beautiful smile in return. It was the last time I would see him.
I’m sorry I was unable to stop at the funeral home. Ray was having a pretty bad day and I felt I needed to be there with him.
We will all miss Mike and you.
