I only knew him a short time when he played on our coed softball team in Connecticut but he was kind and could always make us “northerners” laugh, mostly at our expense. 26. I am very shocked and saddened to hear the news. When I think of Mike, I think of one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. I have alot of memories of Mike while he was at Ames, and every one of them puts a smile on my face when I recall them. My condolences to his family and anyone that knew Mike, I share your loss!

  27. Mike and I had been friends since we first met while interviewing at Ames Corporate Office. We were very close from that spring of 1998 until Ames closed. I was fortunate enough to hook back up with Mike about a year ago and we had stayed in touch ever since. Ironically, we spoke for nearly 2 hours just a few days before he passed. I cannot even begin to imagine what kind of nightmare this has been for all of his family. I wish that I could have had the chance to meet you as I know so much about you. I am truly greatful to God that he was able to take over my position in Ohio when I decided to move back to New England. He did get to see you all one last time and I am thankful for that. Even my wife and kids are still in shock about this sudden tragedy. Mike spent a month living with us between apartments and we had the best times that I can ever recall. The only thing that I can say is that I now truly believe that only the good die young. We all miss you MIke and you are in our thoughts and prayers every moment as is your family! Love, Chris Gottardi, Heather, Amanda, David, and Taren

  28. Dear Sokolowski Family, My deepest synpathies are with all of you. I had the pleasure of working with Mike at Ames Corporate headquaters in Rocky Hill. Mike was a fun loving, wonderful guy with a kind and generous heart. I believe that if Mike’s heart became weak, it was because he shared a piece of it with everyone he encountered. I am blessed to have been one of those people. I loved his ability to always make me laugh and will treasuer those fond memories. Sincerely, Juile Dinnan

  29. To the family, My sincere condolences in your lost, Mike was very special and a great freind. Mike and I worked together at Sara Lee in NC, he was a wonderful guy, I miss him a lot especially when things get really rough around here during our resets, Mike always had a way of making you laugh and making things a little lighter. I will always remember Mike’s smile and laughter. My most memorable memory will always be Mike in a Grass Skirt for a skit for one our sales meetings and where we lip-sync to Jimmy Buffet’s “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Mike was such a wonderful character, he is missed much. God Bless you and your family. You are in my prayers.

  30. I like so many others remember Mike with a smile on his face and laughter on his lips. He was a great person to be around. I am sorry for your loss.
