monnie mack
Monnie Mae Mack of Weirton passed away on Tuesday July 21, 2020, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North after a recent battle with cancer. She was 79. Born on March 8, 1941, in Zalia, WV, Monnie was the first of three children born to Shirl and Lelia Chafin Beatty, Sr. She grew up in Weirton and graduated from Weir High School in the Class of 1959. On June 3, 1960, she married Harry J. Mack, and the two of them were pretty much inseparable. They shared their love at first sight for over 60 years and were blessed with two sons, a granddaughter and a grandson. Monnie and Harry nourished their faith at the First Baptist Church in Weirton. Throughout the years, Harry worked at Weirton Steel on the continuous caster, and Monnie took care of their home. They were both very involved in their son’s lives, helping countless hours at the Weirton Baseball Association in the initial stages of the ballfields. As the years passed, Monnie and Harry enjoyed traveling. After numerous trips and wintering in Myrtle Beach, SC, they decided to travel to other parts of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and most recently to Gatlinburg, TN. Harry and Monnie also had the opportunity to go on several cruises. A very talented artist, Monnie, could paint and draw a picture often better than the original. Her artistic ability naturally made her gifted in making ceramics and arts and crafts. Her artistic talents also carried over to her landscaping around her home as she was recognized by the Weirton Times as the winner of the best landscaped yard in the Weirton Area. Monnie’s friendships she made in high school carried on throughout her life, and she was very fortunate to be able to meet with her girlfriends twice a month for years at Eat N Park, once for lunch and once for dinner. Most of all, Monnie will be remembered for the love and concern she had for her family and always putting the needs of others first. She was always full of energy as she lovingly cooked meals for her friends and family. In addition to her parents, Monnie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Tina Mack; and her brother, Shirl Beatty, Jr. She will be remembered with love by her husband, Harry J. Mack, her sons, Thomas and Shirlee Mack and Timothy and Kim Mack; her grandchildren, Tommy Mack and Natalie (Dustin) Koziara; her sister, Dorothy and Omar Jenkins; and her sister- in- law, Dottie Beatty. A private celebration of Monnie’s life will be observed. Greco - Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton is honored to care for her arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weirton Baseball Association PO Box 2844 Weirton, WV 26062 or Valley Hospice. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com
