nellie gaston

Nellie Jane (Jordan) Gaston, 88, passed away peacefully at Golden Oaks Residential Board in Follansbee on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born in Salem, PA, on July 26, 1937, Nellie was a beloved daughter of William and Dorothy Brown Jordan and the cherished sister to her seven siblings.

A graduate of Chester High School in 1955, Nellie married Leonard James Gaston, and together, they built a beautiful life centered around family and faith. As a dedicated homemaker, Nellie gathered everyone for outings, filling their hearts with laughter and cherished memories.

Nellie nurtured her faith at Oakland Presbyterian Church, where she attended services regularly and found a deep sense of community. Known for her infectious spirit, she and Leonard delighted in square dancing and clogging, bringing rhythm and joy to their lives. Her love for country and gospel music resonated through the gatherings that brought friends and family together.

Nellie’s work in the kitchen was legendary, particularly her renowned potato salad and refreshing iced tea, which became staples at family gatherings. As a beloved member of the Red Hats, she embraced life with grace and humor.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard James Gaston; her sister Fran Kesner; and her granddaughter Ashlee Wade.
