Opal M. Whear, 74, of Steubenville, OH, formerly of Weirton, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 in Steubenville, OH at the home of her daughter. Born January 19, 1938 in Shirley, WV, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Sylvia Main Kester. She was also preceded in death by her husband John D. Whear, Sr. on March 1, 1981, sisters Ruby Weekley, Dorothy Curtis and Mary Edgell, brother Harry Kester, two grandsons, a great granddaughter, and her two dogs Champ and Precious Baby. Mrs. Whear was a homemaker, a member of the Ministry of Salvation Baptist Church in Steubenville, OH and the Weirton V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Opal is survived by her son John D. Whear, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Lanham, MD; daughters Debra Clifton and her husband James of Weirton, Karen Whear and her companion Gary Carder of Steubenville and Rona Harper and her husband Geary of Steubenville, OH; brothers Walter Kester of Midland, PA and Gary Kester of Chester, WV; sisters DeEtta Tibbs of Weirton and Kathy DeVaz of Chester, WV; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV where funeral services will be celebrated 11AM Monday. The Reverend Michael Renforth will officiate. Entombment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to Ministry of Salvation Baptist Church, 181 Shirley Circle, Steubenville, OH 43952.

I always looked forward to the times your mom would babysit me. She was a fun and loving woman and will be deeply missed!
