pasquale longhi
Patsy has been a resident of Weirton since immigrating to the United States in 1955. He married here raised a family while managing his own businesses, Longhi Construction, and apartment buildings. For 49 years he has been involved in improving the quality of living for Weirton and area residents through building homes and structures, as well as renovating many structures. He also designed and built his own apartment units in Weirton, and has been offering high quality apartment living for his fellow residents for more than 30 years. Born on February 2, 1931 in the Abruzzi village of Pedicciano, Provincia L’ Aquila, Italy, the son of the late Alberto and Angelina Bernardi Longhi. Patsy attended schools in Pedicciano and L’Aquilla, then at age 17 he left his family to learn commercial building construction in Venezuela, South America. At age 24, he settled in Weirton where he joined relatives, the Louis Bernardi family. His first employer was A. C. Donnell building contractors, which at the time was developing residential homes in the area around St. Joseph the Worker church and school. This is where Patsy built his home and he and his wife have lived for 40 years. During the 1960s, he worked as a bricklayer for Starvaggi Industries and later for Sellitti Construction. In 1960 he married the former Mary Petricca, a lifelong resident of Weirton, and promptly started building their home. In 1961, the couple had their first of three children. It was also that year that this Italian immigrant proudly became a citizen of the United States. In the 1970s, Patsy joined the Bricklayer’s Union Local #11 and started his own business, “Longhi Construction”. Specializing in masonry work by the 1980s, Patsy soon became known in the area as an established home builder/contractor and rental property owner. A lifelong Catholic, Patsy is a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Weirton. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus #3734, the Italian Sons and Daughters of American, Four Seasons Senior Club and is a trustee for the Welfare Fund of the Bricklayer’s Union. Recently, Patsy and Mary celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with their three children, all of whom have earned degrees in the field of healthcare – Patsy V. Longhi of Weirton, a pharmacist; Suzanne A. Antinone, BSN, of Weirton; and Dr. James J. Longhi, RPh, DO, a general surgeon of Morgantown; and six grandchildren. “I am very proud to say where I came from” this family man and immigrant says, referring not only of his home in Italy, but also of Weirton. He has always cared deeply for the people who live in Weirton, while joining them in fondly reminiscing of life in Italy. He has expressed his deep care for the many individuals met over the years with both big and small gestures, in business and personal life, which are representative of his genuinely generous nature. Patsy passed away at his residence in Weirton on Tuesday August 17, 2004. Patsy is survived by his wife, Mary Petricca Longhi of Weirton, whom he married on November 12, 1960; two sons, Patsy V. Longhi and his wife Donna of Weirton and Dr. James J.
