Born in:

Patricia “Patty” Basil of Weirton, WV, lovingly known as “The Ace” to her husband “Tweeze” and to all who knew their love story, was called home to her Lord on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Patty was a faithful servant of God, and to others in many ways, a devoted matriarch, and the heart of her family.
Born on March 9, 1938, in Steubenville, OH, Patty, a devout Catholic, lived a life rooted in faith, Scripture, Tradition, and overflowing with love and care for others. She was an active parishioner at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and was a servant to God to others in many ways: Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Prayer Line, and a member of the Christian Mothers. She was the very definition of a prayer warrior. Her faith was not only spoken but lived, and she passed that faith on to her children, grandchildren, and friends – an everlasting gift that will continue to guide their lives. She shared with them her favorite Bible verses: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), “Fear is useless, what is needed is trust” (Mark 5:36). Mom’s favorite saint was Saint Anthony, passed down from her cherished Nonna. “Don’t forget about San Anton” stayed with her always. She faithfully attended a weekly prayer and share group with her dear Christian friends for over fifty years, supporting one another and lifting others up in prayer.
Family was everything to her. She poured her love into every role. She was a servant to all, supporting many charities such as sponsoring several children in need, EWTN, and was a strong advocate for the Right to Life movement. She was a devoted and loving wife, the “best mom and Nana in the world,” and a cherished friend to many. Patty’s sisters, Jo Jo and Carole, always looked up to their big sister for her impeccable sense of style. They have fond memories of watching her and her friends get all dressed to go to the Bobby Vinton Show and dance the night away. The very place she first met her husband Tweeze!
She was a joyful, kind, humble and gentle soul whose warmth could be felt by everyone she met. Her kitchen was a warm gathering place filled with love, and the scents of homemade Italian meals. Patty delighted in making homemade pasta, soups, amazing pies, and cookies alongside her grandchildren, sharing treasured recipes that continue to be lovingly prepared by her family.
She will be remembered with love and admiration by her husband, Larry; her three children, John (Mary) Basil, Joe (Lisa) Basil, and Lori Schattner; seven grandchildren, Rachel Basil, Francesca Basil, Julia Barnett (Matt), Anthony Basil, Alex Schattner, Lorenzo Basil (Julie), and Jake Schattner; two great-grandchildren, Max and Sally Basil; two dear sisters, Jo Jo Werkin and Carole Kliner (Ed); her niece Renee, and her three nephews, David, Josh and Aaron; her loving aides Marlo and Natalie, and countless friends who were blessed by her kindness and example.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mamie Ippoliti, and brother in-law Ed Werkin.
Patty’s life was a testament to her faith, her selflessness, and her unwavering trust in God’s plan. She leaves behind a legacy of love, prayer, family traditions, and recipes that will be carried on for generations to come.
