Pegeen Ann Opet, 52, of Weirton, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006 at her home. Born July 4, 1953 in Hackensack, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Pattberg Dolan.
Pegeen was a homemaker, a member of the ASPCA and the US Army Reserve Family Support Group. She was an avid reader who loved to write poetry. She loved to cook and try new recipes that she learned from watching the cooking shows. Walking with her dog “Tricky Woo” was one of her favorite pastimes. Also, if it was Irish, she loved it.
Pegeen’s survivors include her husband Steve Opet of Weirton whom she married September 4, 1976; brother John Dolan of Houston, Texas; sisters Hannah Coleman of Rutherford, NJ, Shawn DeSchepper of North Sussex, NJ, Dana Dolan of East Hampton, NY, Josephine Russell of Toronto, OH and Maura Shand of Upper Greenwood Lake, NJ; half sisters Betty Songer and Kathy Cantor of Norwood, NC, Elaine Wysong of West Sacramento, CA and Dawn Ruth of Naples, FL; mother-in- law Helen Opet; brother-in-law Charles Opet and his wife Heather; sister-in-law Donna Kidd and her husband Glenn all of Weirton and her two best friends Rose Bragg of Weirton and Robyne Konz of Upper Greenwood Lake, NJ. She also leaves her nieces and nephews Shane, Ivan, Violet and Laurel Russell, Tristan DeSchepper and Vashni DeSchepper.
The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
Funeral Liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10AM Friday at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Interment will be at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee.

I first met Steve 20 years ago and throughout that time, he has always loved his wife dearly. We have shared many good times together — I will never forget them, and I share his loss and sorrow at Pegeen’s passing.

Dear Steve, This year, on April 1st (my birthday), my sister of only 52 years, died of cancer. Her cancer was agressive and we were not prepared for her to pass so quickly. I tell you this so you know that it’s OK to be overwhelmed and maybe even feel lost as it is so difficult to loose someone so close. I truly truly sympathize with you for your loss. Only time and your beliefs in a better life and world will help you through. I’m sure you too will learn the lesson I have, that is to make each day and every action you take, worthwhile. My deepest and sincerist sympathies to You.
