Richard Howard (Dick) Heilman, 87, of Weirton, WV was born July 3, 1930 in Holidays Cove, WV and died peacefully with family by his side on March 13, 2018, in Steubenville, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hildegard (Murray) Heilman and brother James (Lefty) Heilman. He is survived by wife of 62 years Ella Mae, 5 children Mike (Virginia), Pam (Mike) McDonald, Jon (Laura), Jill & Jim. 7 Grandchildren Carly (Heilman) Coldwell, Jared Heilman, Lauren McDonald Banks, Michael McDonald, Christy Heilman Del-Ben, Ryan Heilman, Josh Heilman. 8 great grandchildren Kinsley & Declan Coldwell, Jacob Heilman, Lincoln Michael Banks, Titus & Braelyn Del-Ben, James & Rose Heilman. Dick served in the US Air Force serving in the Korean War. He retired from Weirton Steel Corporation with 43 years of service as a pipefitter, foreman, union steward and committeeman. He loved golf and spending time with family and friends “making memories”. Building or repairing anything to help family and friends, Dick and his brother Lefty along with friends called themselves the “Hardly Able Construction Company”. WVU was his favorite college team and he loved rooting the Mountaineers on with his #1 niece Patti. He coached and volunteered at Weirton Termite Baseball, installing the first fences and dugouts. Many good times were to be had at Pleasant Valley Country Club, where Dick & Ella Mae joined in the 1970s. He served as chairman of the grounds and house committees there and was instrumental in numerous improvements there including the “Heilman Railroad”. Dick was a member of the 25 Year Club of Weirton Steel and the Knights of Columbus 3734. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Thursday and 10 AM - 12 PM Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Friday at Noon. Monsignor Gerald Calovini will preside. Military services will be conducted by the Air Force and the American Legion Honor Guards.
