Rodger James Anderson of Weirton, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was 70 years old. He was born in New Cumberland, on August 1, 1951, one of seventeen children born to William and Sarah Glover Anderson. Rodger attended Weir High School and worked for more than fifty years for Weir-Cove and Barney’s Bakery ascending to the position of head baker. Daily he would prepare well-known items such as their bread, pepperoni rolls, and various pastries. The holidays were even more special always anticipating the Easter bread and various Christmas cookies which the customers were so accustomed to enjoying. It was common for Rodger to bring fresh bread home to his family, typically breaking off pieces to eat not waiting for the loaf to be sliced. Rodger’s family described him as a “little man with a big heart.” He was the best dad ever, and his world revolved around his grandson Matthew, he was his life. Additionally, he was a diligent worker, always willing to provide his family with whatever they needed. He found enjoyment throughout his life attending Mountaineer Racetrack and striving for the perfect game at the bowling alley. A very dedicated husband to his wife Charlotte who preceded him in death on July 14, 1992, he was additionally preceded in death by his parents. Brothers Virgil and Frank Anderson, sisters Linda Anderson, Delphia Anderson Miller, brothers-in-law, Rodney Kukich, and Joseph Rodriguez. Left to cherish his memory with love and complete admiration is his daughter Katina (Monte) Crisci of Follansbee, son Rodger Anderson, Jr., of Weirton, his grandson Matthew Crisci of Follansbee, brothers Carl (Norma) Anderson of Missouri, Tannie (Kathy) Anderson of Weirton, Owen (Diana) Anderson of Colliers, Tommie (Jody) Anderson of Weirton, sisters Billie Kukich of New Cumberland, Patricia Olenick of Weirton, Lynn (James) Dodd of Wellsburg, Frances (George) Staats of Colliers, Kathy (Brian) Hans of Weirton, Nekoa (Teddy) Truax of New Cumberland, Sarah Hans of New Cumberland, Nina (Jay) Pederson of Follansbee, brother-in-law Tim Miller, and loved by his many nieces and nephews. Friends may visit Rodger’s family on Monday from 2 PM until the 6 PM service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Pastor James Rhodes will officiate.
