rose peters

Rose Caparros Peters, beloved daughter, wife, aunt, friend, and artist, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025.

Born on October 27, 1941, in Weirton, WV, Rose was known for her vibrant spirit, gentle wisdom, and artistic soul. She found great joy in the delicate art of quilling, the beauty of painting, and the tranquility of ocean life. Her happiest days were spent in Topsail, North Carolina, with her husband, Richard, and their dog, Muffin, where the rhythm of the waves matched the calm and creativity she brought into the lives of those around her.

Rose’s warmth, creativity, and kindness touched many. She was a steady source of inspiration, always encouraging others to find beauty in the small things. Whether through a shared story, a handcrafted card, a home-baked dessert, or a quiet afternoon on the porch overlooking the intercoastal waterway, her presence was a gift.

Rose was always active in her community. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, where she was always involved in planning a social or philanthropic activity. She volunteered to do “turtle walks” in the early morning hours near her home in Topsail, looking for signs of sea turtles nesting. She also volunteered at the Karen Beasley Turtle Hospital, where they cared for sick and injured sea turtles. In addition, Rose served for 18 years at the Missiles and More Museum in Topsail Beach, NC, many of those years as director.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and Ramon, along with her loving husband, Richard; brother, Raymond Caparros; and sisters, Juanita Caparros Vagnozzi and Dolly Caparros. She is survived by her loving family; brother in law, Geoff and wife Jo of Fairfax, VA; nieces, Kara Peters of Durham, NC, Dianne Vagnozzi Holecek (Tom) of Ashburn, VA, Ramaine Caparros Turrentine (Mike) of Steubenville, OH; nephews, Shawn Peters of Bethesda, MD, and Buck Caparros (Kelly) of Weirton WV along with great nieces, Leah Caparros of Weirton, WV. Natasha Holecek of Ashburn, VA, great nephews, Sam Caparros of Oakland, CA, Victor Holecek of Ashburn, VA, great-great nephew, Asher Holecek, and many, many friends who will carry her memory with deep affection.

Rose’s request for cremation will be honored.

She will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rose’s memory to a local arts program, The Missiles and More Museum, 720 Channel Boulevard, Topsail Beach, NC 28445, or The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, 302 Tortuga Ln, Surf City, NC 28445.
