Ruth Long, 85, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at her home. Born January 1, 1923 in Weirton, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Strauss Kecker. Mrs. Long was also preceded in death by her husband Gordon N. Long, Sr. on October 22, 1996, son Gordon N. Long, Jr. on August 19, 2001, son-in- law Pete Downs and sister Ida Reho. Mrs. Long was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Pleasant Valley Country Club, where she loved her golf outings. She was also a member of several area card clubs where she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She was a very elegant and social woman who cherished the times when she would entertain her family and friends. Ruth is survived by her sons Dennis Long and his wife Peggy of Cannonsburg, PA, and James Daniel "Danny" Long of Lake Placid, NY; daughters Linda Downs of Pittsburgh, PA and Leslie Patrelakis and her husband George of Weirton; sisters Mary Hovorka of Chicago, IL, Rose Marie Kecker of Brecksville, OH and Josephine McGough of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Dennis, Robert, Scott, Michael, Meredith, Jackie, Steve and Lindsay; two great grandchildren, Ashley Gordon and Grace Lee; many loving nieces and nephews and her dear and loving friend, Marianne Kane. Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11AM Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Reverend Father Tony Thurston will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
