salvadore oliver
Salvadore James “Ollie” Anthony Oliver of Weirton passed away after lengthy illness at his residence on January 19, 2022. He was 71 years old. He was born in Steubenville on October 8, 1950, a son to the late Salvatore and Florence Zubrycki Oliver. Ollie, as he was known to many at Weirton Steel, retired with over twenty-five years in the welding department. He was a member of the 1968 graduating class of Weir High School and had a passion for his 1969 Dodge Dart and his beloved Harley, sometimes trailering it to Daytona for Bike Week. His daughters described him as a family-oriented person with a “Heart of Gold.” He would help anyone with anything. The passion he had for his family and the love he gave them will be missed, they will cherish everything he taught them. Especially teaching them basic skills about their cars, making sure they knew how to change their oil and fix a flat tire. They will remember fondly the board-game nights they had at their house, always staying away from card games because everyone knew who was going to win, DAD! His love for card games went well beyond their home, after his retirement, he was employed at Mountaineer Park as a dealer. One of his past-times was his love for the game of Blackjack, he enjoyed beating the players as they sat at his table. There was never a time that he did not have a word or two for you, and he certainly did not mind sharing his opinion, although an opinion it was, it was the right one! Ollie was a jack-of-all trades. He built a truck from the frame up and every passer-by was impressed, often stopping, and offering to buy it from him, and his answer was always a resounding, NO! In his spare time, Ollie enjoyed fishing and camping and just chit-chatting with his friends, telling all the stories that so many of his friends will miss from their weekly sessions. In addition to his parents, Ollie was preceded in death by his sister Toni Marie Oliver Bissell and his uncle, Ray Kaczynski. He will be remembered fondly with love and great admiration by his daughters Stephanie Wilfong of Ferndale, Michigan, Stacey Wilfong, and her fiancé Michael Grohowski of Raleigh, NC., his granddaughter whom he adored, Kayla Walusek, his aunt, Edith Kaczynski and his four-legged friends, Bella, and Tookie. His friends will be received Tuesday, January 25, 2022, from 4-7 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, where services will be held Wednesday at 11AM. Interment will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery. Ollies’ family would like to thank Dr. Mohammad P. Rahman, the nurses, and the staff at the Tony Teramana Cancer Treatment Center for all the diligent care they gave him during his illness. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com
