stella souranis
Stella Souranis, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away on March 18, 2021. She was 93. On May 4, 1927, Stella was born in Weirton, WV, the youngest of five daughters to Nikolas and Maria Kayavia Kolakis. Stella graduated from Weir High School in 1945. After high school, she was employed as a tin flopper at Weirton Steel. While working in the mill, she met a buggy driver, Paul Michael Souranis, and they were married on June 19, 1955. In their 55 years of marriage, Paul and Stella were blessed with a son, a daughter, and a grandson who was the apple of their eye. Stella was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Campfire Girl leader, member of the Chios Society, a past president of the Philoptochos Society, and an officer with the All Saints Senior Citizens and the Daughters of Penelope. Stella enjoyed cooking and baking and often opened up her home to family and friends for the holidays. She cherished times with her family and was very fortunate to take her family to Greece in 1979. One of her proudest moments was attending her grandson Michael's graduation from The Ohio State University in 2016. In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Michael Souranis, on September 18, 2010, her son-in-law, Anthony "Tony" Mastromichalis, on May 5, 1995; and her sisters, Bertha Frangakis, Demetra Lazaris, Ann Ameredes, and Bernice Karageanes. She will be remembered with love by her son, Michael Souranis; her daughter, Constance "Connie" Mastromichalis; her “sweetie”, her grandson, Michael Mastromichalis. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton. Rev. Fr. Frank Milanese will preside. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Souranis's family would like to thank Dr. Maria Tranto, Dr. George Dimitriou, the Laurels of Steubenville, and Southerncare Hospice for all the love and outstanding care they provided to their mother and grandmother. Memorial contributions may be made to the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com 304 748 -3219
