Steve Maravel

Steve Maravel, 92, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH. Born June 4, 1920, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Gus and Aspasia Maravel(ias). He was also preceded in death by his sons, Jimmy and Lee Maravel and sisters Helen Zervas and Kay Maravel. Known for his leadership qualities, Steve retired as an inspector for Republic Aviation in Farmingdale, NY. During World War II, Steve was a corporal in the United States Marine Corp, where he was wounded in combat. At the age of 65, Steve suffered a massive heart attack but through his determination was jogging a year later. He also loved to swim in the ocean, and tend to his garden. He will always be remembered as a very intelligent man, who could fix or figure out anything. In his free time he loved the horses, and many patrons at the track would seek him out for his expert advice on handicapping. Mr. Maravel is survived by his son Eugene; daughter Dina and niece Diane Kines and her husband Peter of Bronx, New York. In accordance with his wishes, his services will be private. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY
