Teresa Mary DiStasi
October 29, 1927 ~ March 1, 2015
Teresa Mary DiStasi, 87, of Weirton, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, in the Weirton Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 29, 1927, in Athlone, Ireland, the daughter of the late John Patrick and Ellen (Dolan) Flanagan.
Terry was also preceded in death by her husband Michael DiStasi, Sr. on May 12, 1993. Her four brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Terry met her husband, an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, during World War II while she was working in her father's business. In the summer of 1950, she traveled to New York City from Ireland aboard the Queen Elizabeth for her marriage in Weirton, WV.
Terry was a homemaker who spent all of her time, talent and love caring for and enjoying her family. The Danny Quinn song, "Tis a Fine Soft Day" was released in her honor, in 2010, commemorating her recent family trip back to her hometown in Ireland.
Terry is survived by her two sons, Michael (Angel) DiStasi of Falmouth, MA and Brian DiStasi of Weirton; two daughters, Leah (David) Velto of Weirton and Ellen (Kevin) of New York, NY; her brother Aloysius Flanagan in England; grandchildren, Thomas (Rachel), Anna, Christine, Sam, Katie, Mikey and Emily; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial were held on March 4, 2015.
She was laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Saint Paul's Cemetery, Weirton, WV.
The family would like to extend much thanks to the staff of the Weirton Geriatric Center for their caring service; Weirton Medical Center for their kind treatment during Teresa's last hours; and Dr. Jasbir Makar for his gentle attention throughout the years.
