Thomas Albert “Abie” Costello, 82, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, February 08, 2007 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born October 29, 1924 in Belle Vernon, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Georgia Price Costello. Abie was also preceded in death by his step mother, Katherine Nolan Costello; his wife Gertrude Raveaux Costello;son Craig Costello on October 2, 2006; brothers, Benjamin, Ed, Elmer, and Joseph Costello and sister Bonnie Accettola. With 42 years of service, Abie retired from Weirton Steel where he was a railroad engineer and a Union Steward. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Post 10 and the WSX 25-Year Club. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Abie was an avid golfer, and was an Ohio West Virginia High School Football official for 33 years. Abie’s survivors include his son Bruce and his wife Cheryl of Weirton; daughter Kathleen Costello of Lakewood, OH; a sister, Lois Merenda of Weirton; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday 5-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where additional visitation will be held Saturday 11 AM until time of services at 1PM. Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 and Weirton Honor Guard.   3. Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss. I will always fondly remember your Dad. He was such a great guy although he never did give me that golf lesson he promised. He was always quick with a joke or to give me “grief” about something in a friendly manner. Having also lost my father some time ago I understand the sadness you are feeling.
