Verna Fay Walp, 73, of Weirton, went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2011. Verna was born on September 27, 1937, in Chattanooga TN. She is the daughter of the late James C and Erma Kelley. Verna was a member of the 1st Christian Church of Weirton. She graduated from West High School in Knoxville TN in 1955. Verna was a lifetime member of the Marland Heights PTA, former member of the Sassy Lassie Red Hat Club and the Weirton Moose Lodge. Verna was a child care provider to many children from Marland Heights in the 1970's. It was a job she enjoyed with all of her heart. She also worked at Jean Frocks and Marland Heights Convenient Store. Verna was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, James H Walp in 1988, brothers James Kelley, Richard Kelley, Terry Kelley, sister Linda Schaeffer, brothers-in-law Fattah Al-Chokachi and James Hamby. She leaves behind to treasure her memory daughters Susan (Greg) Reitter of Weirton, Nancy Walp of Weirton, Connie (Blaine) Stern of Chesapeake VA and two very special grandchildren, Jonathan and Hollie Reitter of Weirton, who brought her much joy and happiness. She also leaves behind brother Jerry (Teresa) Kelley of Sun City CA, sisters Polly Hamby of Knoxville TN, Trudy Al-Chokachi of Memphis TN, Bobbie (Ken) Sharp of Panama City FL, Shirley Kelley of Knoxville TN, Helen Kelley of Norton OH and very special friends of the family, Carlos Beagle, Betty Beagle and Pat Miller. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. As the caring and giving person Verna was, she has donated her body to the West Virginia Gift Registry of Morgantown West Virginia. A memorial service will be held at the 1st Christian Church, 3252 Main Street, Weirton on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Kevin Bowers will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943.

  6. Girls. Your Mothers actions spoke for her to all that knew her. She takes me back to the mid 70’s when she took care of my daughter Jennifer in her little pre school classes! What a lady and THAT she was.

  13. Verna Lou!!! How do I begin? She was my children’s pre-school teacher and a GREAT one at that!!!! She worked for me at Convenient on Marland Heights and that store was in GREAT HANDS when she was there. She would work circles around people and was very loyal. She was one of the nicest persons anyone could know. If you knew Verna, your life was enriched. She’ll certainly be missed by a lot of people. She was a people person and loved her family. Susan, Nancy and Connie, please accept my deepest sympathy. Your mother was a phenomenal person and I loved her!

  24. Dear Susan, I recieved your message about your wonderful Mother. Unfortunately I called to find out where your Mom was on Tuesday morning and found out she had passed. I am so sorry about your loss. Verna was always so pleasant and loving. She always spoke of the love she had for all of you. I can remember back to the days when she worked at Convenient. She was truely a special woman. She will be missed greatly. God bless you and all of your family.
