Wilbur C. Miller, 103, of Charlton, MA, formerly of Weirton, WVA and Paris, PA, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton, where he had been residing for nearly 12 years. Born October 28, 1907, in Marietta, OH, he was a son of the late Charles Dudley and Anna Huff Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dorothy Pfeiffer Miller on January 5, 1997, as well as sisters Ethel Barrett and Pauline Kreinberg and brother Charles Miller, Jr. Mr. Miller is survived by his son, Charles D.(Dave) Miller of Clarksville, TN and two daughters, Ruth Evelyn Miller and her husband Fred Snively of Cupertino CA and Nancy Eberiel of Westford, MA. In addition, there are seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. After thirty years of service, Wilbur retired from Weirton Steel, where he had worked as a slab yard foreman. He was Protestant by faith and a 75-year member of the New Cumberland Masonic #22. Wilbur was an avid organic gardener and loved reading classical literature, especially Shakespeare. He memorized poetry and would entertain friends and family by reciting his favorites for hours at a time. After moving to Massachusetts in 2000, Wilbur was able to experience in person his passion for opera, traveling several times to the New York Metropolitan Opera house, as well as to Broadway for the revival of his favorite musical, "Oklahoma". He owned an extensive music video collection and watched at least one every day. While living in Massachusetts, Wilbur also enjoyed touring around New England, visiting granite quarries in Vermont, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the coast of Maine, Cape Cod and Rhode Island, as well as museums, country fairs and various musical productions. Being very interested in American History, he visited the homes of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Paul Revere, Ralph Waldo Emerson and John Alcott. Visitation will be Friday, October 14, 2011, 12PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. At 1 PM, the funeral service will commence, led by Reverend Larry Barkley. This will be followed immediately by a Masonic Memorial Service. Interment will be at the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Overlook Masonic Health Center, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA 01507.
