William "Jay" Watt
February 19, 1927 ~ March 8, 2017
William "Jay" Watt, 90, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born February 19, 1927 in Follansbee, he was the son of the late Dane and Alice (Barriclow) Watt. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Evelyn Long and Mary Alice Mosser.
William retired from National Steel as a rolling mill operator after 40 years. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 during WWII in the Third Army under George Patton.
William was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, KOFC 3734, Holy Name Society, ISDA, WSX 25 Year Club and Pleasant Valley Country Club, where he belonged for over 40 years. He enjoyed traveling to see his grandchildren and was an avid golfer who had two hole in ones.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Agnes (Lamalfa) Watt; son William (Diane) Watt of Hilton Head, SC; daughter Mary Ann (Jerry) Basconi of Houston, TX; grandchildren Jerry (Dana), Nicholas and Leah Basconi, Zachary and Jacob Watt; great-grandchildren Michael and Cameron Basconi; sister-in law Thelma (Charles) Kittle of Weirton, Josephine (John) Antlake of Wheeling, Marie Rostic of Ozark, Missouri and nephew Charles Mosser.
Friends will be received on Friday from 3-6 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Father Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
