Robert “Bob” Nelson Clevenger of Colliers, WV earned his angel wings on Tuesday, December 29th surrounded by his loving family after a wonderful, rich ninety two years of life. Born on September 8, 1928 in Doddridge County, WV. Robert was the son of the late Samuel and Sarah Blakesmith Clevenger. He was also preceded in death by his wife of sixty nine years, Genevieve, and his daughter Charlene, as well as his five sisters: Thelma Gainer, Georgia Messerschmidt, Nellie Matheny, Ruth Gilles, Helen Clevenger, his four brothers: Tracy Clevenger, Blair Clevenger, Kenneth Clevenger, John Clevenger, and his sons-in-law: Joe Ennis and Mike Johnston. Robert is survived by his daughters: Roberta (Bill) Cox of Wellsburg, WV, Brenda Clevenger of Dallas, TX, Shelly Johnston of Weirton, WV, and Kelly Clevenger at home, and his son-in-law, Byron Price of Weirton, WV. Robert retired after working for forty years at Weirton Steel in the blast furnace. He loved spending time with his family, and in his younger days he enjoyed taking them to various amusement parks, and to New York State, where his wife was from. He enjoyed in his younger years, watching his grandchildren and great- grandchildren play sports, hunting and fishing with his work buddies. In his older years, he enjoyed coin collecting, visiting Ohio Amish country, and bluegrass music. A great spotter of wildlife, he enjoyed nightly rides looking for deer, turkey, squirrels, and rabbits. He treasured the time spent at his family’s farm in Snake Run Doddridge County, WV, where he enjoyed mowing 10 acres of his 153 acres farm. He cherished his collection of farm tractors, and the time relaxing watching the deer and turkey roam. Back home in Colliers, Robert took great pride in his lawn, where his neighbors enjoyed watching his daily mowing. People always commented that he was younger than his years and that he had a great zest for life. Robert loved talking to and meeting new people and never met a stranger. Most of all Robert was a dedicated husband and father who took great pride in his girls in whom he instilled a strong work ethic. In the last two years of his life, while receiving dialysis he felt that he had a second family with the staff and fellow patients at the dialysis clinic. Friends will be received 5 PM until 8 PM on Wednesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton and 11:00 AM until time of funeral services at 1:oo PM on Thursday.
