This is the letter I wrote to my Father for Father’s Day 2025 (This is long so I figured I’d better type it than write it) Dear Dad: This Father’s Day, I want to thank you-not just for being my father for almost 65 years, but for being such a good one. Growing up, I wasn’t exactly the easiest kid to figure out. I always felt a bit awkward trying to fit in and knowing how I was supposed to be as a little boy. You always stood beside me. You were the cub master when I was in cub scouts and coached Little League which I sucked at and was probably painful for both of us. LOL. Still you coached the team, you wore the cap and cheered me on, even when I struck out…again and again. When I discovered photography, you didn’t just nod and say “cool.” You helped me get a camera and went trudging through snowy woods with me, both of us looking for the perfect shot. (I think we got a few, but really, the best part was being with you.) You taught me what money really means. When I wanted a 10 speed bike and you said, “I’ll pay for half if you earn the rest,” I thought it was a trick. Turns out, it was one of the best lessons I’ve ever learned: that nothing comes free, and if you want something, you work for it. I am also grateful for your amazing sense of humor and your natural curiosity in things that make you one of the smartest people I know. I’d like to think I got both those qualities from you knowing that laughter and wonder keep us young and keep us growing. Through the years – the highs, the lows, the detours and dead-ends – you never gave up on me. Or my sisters. And that steady, unconditional love has meant more than you’ll ever know. I don’t know how many more Father’s Days we’ll get, but I didn’t want to miss the chance to say it now: Thank you. For the time, the lessons, the sacrifices, the support, the love, the laughter and learning…oh, yea, and the Dad jokes. Love, Your son Lary Jon
