Pastor Henry "Tex" Burns, 76, of Weirton, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 in the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH. Born August 20, 1935 in Weirton, he was the son of the late Joe and Gussie Hawkin Burns. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Calvin, Willie, Joseph, Primes and Eugene Burns and sisters Ezelle Sholar, Shirley Guin and Gussie Colquitt. In addition to retiring from Weirton Steel after 36 years as a supervisor in the construction department, Pastor Burns was the founder and pastor for the Apostolic Lighthouse Church and a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He was a member of the Weirton Ministerial Association, Southeast Regional Brotherhood, NAACP and the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club. He also served as advisor for Women's Aglow, CEO of Feed the Need and founded C.A.R. Corporation, Inc. at the former Dunbar School. Pastor Burns was a pillar in the community he proudly served. He leaves a great legacy. Pastor Burns is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years Gloria Burns of Weirton; son Shawn (Tishawna) Burns of Weirton; daughters Robin (Matthew) Quivers, Linda (Keith) Bloom and Karen (Carroll) Harris all of Weirton; adopted daughter Laura (Willie) Jones of Atlanta, GA; brother Harry Burns of Steubenville, OH; sister Eliza Burns of Follansbee, WV; grandchildren Darwin Jeter, Keith Bloom II, Jesse Siegel, Shawn Burns II, Shelva Burns and Rachelle Pettaway; great grandchildren Mariah, Kamarri, Trey, Evan, Jacob, Aaliyah, Gianna and Tyresse and a host of relatives and friends. Friends will be received Friday, November 25 from 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Saturday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday at the Weirton Covenant Church, Weirton. The Eulogy will be by Bishop Paul E. Bowers, O.D.C. Diocesan. Interment will follow in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV. Many yrs. ago, I would come out of work at the Marantz Bldg, car covered w/snow..didn’t know him & he would stop & help clean off my car with me.. That’s how I met him! What a Good Man and it’s nice to know everyone liked him. I will keep you in my prayers.

  10. Tex and I worked together at the Weirton Steel Construction Department from May 1965 through August 1969. Tex was a wonderful, supportive, kind and generous friend. After the Mill I moved on and made my career on the East Coast. I returned in 2003 and visited his church. He was so very happy to show me around. While I know that words are only a small gesture of support, I want you to know that his life has touched so many people and I am happy to say that I am one of them.   17. To the Burns Family, What a legacy your father has left. I felt his presence recently at the presentation of Weirton’s African-American history. His spirit was once again felt during my Thanksgiving dinner at the Senior Center. I will miss sharing bread with him at the Feed the Need meals. Just remember your father was needed in Heaven for the holidays. He has gone before us to open the gate for us. Sending my prayers along as I am unable to attend the services due to work commintment.
